Nigel provided a fantastic purchasing experience. He took the necessary time to thoroughly explain and demonstrate how the bikes work and accompanied us on a substantial test ride.

The Superlite 3 is an outstanding e-bike that perfectly accommodates our lifestyle:

• It is lightweight enough to easily lift onto the back of a motorhome.
• It delivers ample range and has enough power to effortlessly conquer steep hills, even when fully loaded with groceries.
• The step-through frame design is highly practical, allowing me to ride comfortably in dress trousers—an essential feature since we are replacing our car with these bikes.

The deciding factor for me, however, was the inclusion of the Bafang motor and controller:

• Unlike proprietary motors from brands like Specialized—which require licensed dealers and often necessitate full motor replacements for out-of-warranty repairs—Bafang utilizes open-system hardware.
• This ensures that any competent bike mechanic with an Allen key and a multimeter can easily service and repair the components.

MeloYelo’s decision to equip their bikes with the Bafang system is the primary reason I am now a first-time e-bike owner. Highly recommended.

We recently bought two Melo Yelo Superlite 3 electric bikes from Nigel in Napier, and we honestly couldn’t be happier with our decision.
I’ll admit I was a bit apprehensive about spending that much on a bicycle, but it has completely proven its value. The bikes are incredibly light for an e-bike, which makes a huge difference when travelling with our motorhome. At the same time, they don’t compromise on performance — the battery lasts impressively long (it genuinely feels like it goes on forever), and they handle both flat roads and hills with ease.
Paired with our Ortlieb pannier bags, they’ve become the perfect setup for exploring and for everyday life, like going to the gym and grocery shopping.
Nigel was fantastic throughout the whole process. He took the time to let us test different bikes, including riding up and down hills, so we could properly understand what would suit us best. That level of care and honesty made all the difference.
If you’re looking for a lightweight, reliable, and genuinely enjoyable electric bike we would absolutely recommend the Melo Yelo Superlite 3.
