  • FAQ

MeloYelo has recently surveyed Kiwi ebike owners to find out whether they plan to replace their current ebike and if so, what features will be most important to them. For those owners who are looking to replace or upgrade their ebike in the near future, here’s what they said they’d be looking for:

  • Easy to get on and off – a step-through frame
  • How well the bike fits me/how comfortable it is for me
  • A lighter weight ebike
  • An ebike with a larger battery, making it possible to cover longer distances
  • An ebike with a throttle

Top 5 Reasons to switch to a MeloYelo Electric Bike

1. Ebikes that are Easy to Get On and Off

MeloYelo has 4 different ebike models to choose from, all of which have step-through frames, which make it easy to get on and off the bike, and all of which have throttles. (Throttles are not just for hub-drive ebikes anymore.) Each of these step-through models caters to a specific kind of customer:

  • The Town’nTrail caters to those who will be riding around town, on urban cycleways, and on light off-road trails, such as rail trails and wine trails, and who are budget-conscious. At $3495, it is our least expensive bike.
  • The Ascent 3 has the same frame as the Town’nTrail, but is built for those who will be tackling more serious trails. It can still be ridden around town, but it offers improved capabilities on steeper, off-road trails. The Ascent 3 is $4595.
  • The SuperLite 3. We designed this bike for those who prioritise lighter weight. Whereas most ebikes weigh around 27kgs (including their battery), the SuperLite weighs just 22kgs including battery. It is fully trail-ready yet also a joy to ride around town, and is priced at $5495.
  • The SuperTrail. This is our newest model. We designed it for those who place a high value on having both front and rear suspension – ideal for tackling the more serious trails, yet doing so in the utmost comfort. The SuperTrail is priced at $6495.

All four of these ebike models have step-through frames, making it easy to get on and off. But, how do MeloYelo ebikes tick the other purchase priorities?

2. Comfortable Electric Bikes

All of MeloYelo’s agents across NZ take time to fit the bike to you. Need different handlebars? No problem. Need a different saddle? No problem. Need the position of the controls on the handlebars moved? No problem. When you ride away or drive away with your new MeloYelo ebike, you can be assured it will fit you like a glove. And, if you need further adjustments after you’ve ridden it a few times, just bring it in to your agent, and they’ll be happy to help.

3. Lightweight Electric Bikes

If weight is a top priority for you, then look no further than the MeloYelo SuperLite. It is as light as a carbon-fibre bike, yet it is made from aircraft-grade aluminium. It weighs approximately 22kg (depending on which size you choose), which includes the battery. Remove the battery, which is easy to remove, and you’re down to less than 19kg. The SuperLite is around 5kgs lighter than most other trail-ready ebikes, and comes with top quality components. It recently received “Consumer recommends” status from Consumer NZ.

4. Electric Bikes with Large Batteries

MeloYelo ebikes have always come standard with larger batteries than most. Compare our battery sizes to other ebikes:

  • Town’nTrail: 630 watt-hours
  • Ascent 3: 720 watt-hours
  • SuperLite 3: 630 watt-hours
  • SuperTrail: 720 watt-hours

The bottom line? MeloYelo ebikes will get you where you need to go, without fear of running out of battery power.

5. Ebikes with Throttle

Historically, if you wanted an ebike with a throttle, your only option was to buy a bike that had a motor in the rear wheel, also known as a hub motor. However, things have changed. All of MeloYelo’s models now come fitted with a throttle – both our hub-drive Town’nTrail as well as our three mid-drive models: The Ascent 3, SuperLite 3 and SuperTrail. Most of our customers love the throttle, saying it helps them get moving from a standstill, which is a safety feature when you’re riding around town, while also giving them some extra assistance when tackling steep hills. However, if a throttle is not for you, your MeloYelo agent can disable the throttle for you.

There are also some other great reasons to choose MeloYelo:

The best Warranty in the Business

While other brands offer a 2-year warranty on electrical and 1-year warranty on mechanical components, MeloYelo offers a 3-year /3000km warranty on both electrical and mechanical components. We are able to do this for two reasons:

  1. The quality of the components we use. All of our components come from reputable brands like Shimano, Suntour, Tektro, Samsung, and LG.
  2. Our rigorous quality control. Every MeloYelo ebike is inspected and test-ridden by our independent quality control team, and shipped only after it passes inspection.

Nationwide, 24/7 Support plus Local Support

MeloYelo’s toll-free number is staffed by real Kiwis, 24/7. And, our nationwide network of agents works as a team to help customers with their problems, regardless of where the bike was bought and where the problem occurs.

Kiwi owned and operated, and supporting engineering education in schools

All of MeloYelo’s ebikes are designed and engineered right here in New Zealand. MeloYelo’s founder was also the founder of EVolocity, a school competition in which teams of students design, build and compete in electric vehicles, learning how electric vehicles work and developing engineering and teamwork skills in the process.  More than 100 schools are now participating.

FAQ

Are MeloYelo e-bikes suitable for hills?

Yes, all of our models are designed in NZ, with NZ’s hilly conditions in mind.

How far can a MeloYelo e-bike travel on one charge?

This depends on a variety of factors, including the leg-power of the rider, whether you’re riding on urban streets or back-country trails, and how hilly the terrain is. MeloYelo bikes come with larger batteries than most other brands, which means you’ll be able to ride as far – or further – than most of your friends without fear of running out of juice.

Do I need a license to ride a MeloYelo e-bike?

No, no license is required.

What warranty comes with a MeloYelo electric bike?

MeloYelo offers the best warranty in the business: 3 years/3000kms, provided your bike is serviced according to our recommended service schedule.

Can I test ride a MeloYelo bike before buying?

Yes. MeloYelo offers the best test-rides in the business. You won’t just get to ride around a parking lot. Your MeloYelo agent will offer you the opportunity to take long test-rides, away from busy streets, so that you can assess the performance and comfort of the bikes in real-world conditions.
