Depending on where you are in New Zealand, it usually costs between $90 and $130 – plus parts and consumables – to service an electric bike. MeloYelo agents typically charge $90 per service check, however we offer a free checkup of your bike, either at 6 months from purchase or after 500kms, whichever comes first.
We recommend full service checks at 12 months or 1000kms and 24 months or 2000kms from your date of purchase. Assuming you register your MeloYelo ebike for warranty, you will receive emails at 6 months, 12 months and 24 months, reminding you to book your electric bike in for service.
Take your bike and your service booklet – which is inside the charger box that comes with your MeloYelo e-bike – to your nearest agent. Your agent will then note in your service booklet that the required service check has been performed. You will need this validation in order to qualify for our free, 3-year extended warranty. (Most electric bikes have a two year warranty on electrical components, one year on mechanical ingredients, excluding misuse, abuse, and accident-related damage.)
What Does a Service Check Consist of?
It consists of:
- Cleaning and lubricating the drivetrain
- Cleaning the bike
- Checking the brakes and disk pads
- Checking the handlebars
- Checking the front suspension
- A general safety check, including checking that all bolts are tight
- Checking the wheels
- Checking the battery
- Checking the lights
- Completing a test ride to ensure everything is working as it should
Why MeloYelo is able to Offer Such a Great Warranty?
MeloYelo takes pride in the quality of our bikes, for several reasons:
- We use quality, name-brand componentry from trusted global suppliers: Shimano, Suntour, Tektro, Samsung & LG, to name a few
- We use a quality control team – independent of our factory and led by a German engineer – to perform quality control on every one of our e-bikes before they leave the factory
- Our nationwide network of agents are highly trained in both the assembly and servicing of our bikes
What if I Bought my Bike in One City or Town, But Need it Serviced Somewhere Else?
No problem. Our nationwide network of agents work closely together and understand the impact they have on customer satisfaction. In fact, at MeloYelo we do everything we can to turn our customers into raving fans. You can verify this for yourself by reading some of our wonderful Google Reviews.
What if I Have an Issue With My Bike, But It’s Not Due For a Service Check?
Get in touch with the MeloYelo agent you purchased the bike from, or the nearest MeloYelo agent to you at the time you experience the issue. This is a far better solution than either not continuing to ride your bike, or just ignoring the issue completely, which may lead to further complications.
Should I be Concerned About the Availability of Spare Parts?
This will depend on the make and model of bike you have. Not long ago, there was a story on Fair Go about a customer who experienced a problem with the motor on their electric bike, and who had to wait a year to get a replacement, so when you’re shopping for an ebike, be sure and enquire as to whether spare parts – especially critical spare parts – are kept in stock in NZ. MeloYelo keeps a good stock of spare parts, including motors, in NZ so that if an issue arises, it can be rectified quickly. (Remember, we don’t just want customers, we want raving fans).
Conclusion
Just as you have your car serviced regularly, so should you have your electric bike serviced regularly. And, if you’re a MeloYelo customer who adheres to our recommended service schedule, you get the added benefit of a three-year extended warranty. So, if you’re on the market for an electric bike, we encourage you to consider MeloYelo. We offer the most comprehensive test rides and the most knowledgeable agents in the business.
